Thomas Export is the outcome of several years of development and expansion of a small company created in 1995 by Mr. Albagnac and Mr. Florange. Specialized in fresh perishable products, the company was located in “Les Halles”, in the heart of Paris. Products were mainly cream, butter and cheese. In 1969, the company “Albagnac and Florange” moved from the center of Paris to the new location of the M.I.N. (Marché d’Intérêt National = Market of National Interest). From the 1970s on, the company started to develop an export activity to respond to international customers and new foreign markets. In the early 1980s, Mr THOMAS, one of the main shareholders of the company, noted a strong expansion of the export activity while a decline in the national French market. In 1987, he decided to refocus the company’s activity on export and changed its name to ALBAGNAC EXPORT, which became a few years later to the current THOMAS EXPORT, part of the THOMAS group.
In 1989, Mr Marzolf (current sales manager and head of the site) joined the sales team of the company. His business experience helped bring into the company new customers and new markets such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan and the United Arab Emirates. These markets kept on growing and having an increasingly important place in the total sales. Thomas Export is currently located at Thiais, on the outskirts of the Marché d’Intérêt National (M.I.N.) in the department Val-de-Marne. In February 2000, the company left the Norman group THOMAS and merged with SO.CO.PAL, a company specialized in retailing fresh and frozen food in large food stores.
When created in 1995, the company held 6 employees. Today, it employs 32 people at Thiais. The amount of the turnover for 2008 was 27 million euros.
The main business of the company is the export of dairy products, mainly cheeses but also butter, cream, yoghurts, milk etc. Although we specialize in French dairy products, we also offer a range of foreign products from Italy, Spain, England, Holland, etc..
Our catalogue and product list carries more than 3,000 items coming from approximately 250 suppliers. We mainly work with small and medium-sized companies (15 to 30 employees), both artisanal-farmhouse to more industrial producers, always sourcing for quality and top-of-the-range products. Over the past few years, we have added non-cheese items such as cooked meats, Poilane bread, jams, olive oils and we are expanding this category.
We are able to supply our customers with products of our range in an efficient and rapid manner. Depending on the destination, in less than a week.
Twice ( and in some case three times a week), we receive an average of 20.000 cases from 200 different suppliers. Each week, we dispatch an average of 40.000 cases.
Thomas Export has a refrigerated warehouse of 1500 m². We also own a lorry in order to deliver the goods to the different consolidators and shipping companies.
For most products and certain markets, an order is treated in 2 or 3 days (receiving customers’ orders, placing orders to suppliers, receiving goods from the suppliers, preparing and dispatching the orders).
For destinations requiring specific documentations, we process all documents such as health certificates and other necessary certificates (certificate of origin, certificate of free sale…). Should the regulations require us to, we offer to label the products in the language of your choice.
